Pretty Boi falls in love with Loreal Girl

I didn’t quite hate - “I hate Luv Story’s.” I neither think that was the director’s intent or target market to invite an audience that hated love stories. On the contrary, the audiences who made it to the theatres are most likely the people who wish to live some romantic magic on weekends or like pretty bois and loreal girls.

Last week, I was told in one of my announcement papers about a sentence that was called as marketing fluff. The sentence read something like “Virtualization unchains workloads from specific implementation strategies and redelivers them in a more dynamic, virtual form.” I felt the feedback was sort of a conspiracy against my writing – I mean it’s an announcement paper that you potentially want to sell to prospective clients – so a couple of marketing fluff is necessary. I shall investigate the science and art next week and possibly take expert opinion.

It’s the same with this movie – a fluffy love story that I didn’t quite really get but makes us feel good. I would give it a 3 on 5 for making me laugh – one does enjoy some of the love graphs, behavior patterns described after a non-fatal heart break or some very comic dialogues. The script is fun on screen. Plus the story is very visually appealing – bright and cool colors, some bollywood humor. You should surely watch if you love pretty bois or loreal girls. Somehow, though, the love doesn’t make an impact. And it’s not only pertaining to this movie – the last love stories I suppose happened in bollywood were “Dilwale Dulhaniya le jayenge”, “Dil to pagal hain” or “Hum Dil de chuke sanam”. There is something about them that connects to me and says – ok – may be love is like this. Today’s generation of love stories are just candy-floss.

But then again, I think, love has no reason. I just have to believe it at face value. I can’t justify it as false, fleeting or fabricated. If it works out, your fantasy has just come true – if it doesn’t, well your life just got “fugly.”
The movie is the same PURANA FORMULA, just wrapped up in colorful fluff which at a superficial level entertains you. And Hollywood can get equally cheesy – I mean what the F*** is with movies like “the Backup Plan” – I mean you are dating the guy, he is raising twins with you and you still manage to get excited because he kneels down and asks you to marry him? Isn’t that just too duh? JLo, please start using your brain cause your billion dollar ass may be getting older! I prefer a DEV-D which is dark but still depicts a possibility of love. As human beings, may be, most of us cannot be detached from it. Some of us who have fallen once, know its sheer life-altering power, and keep wanting for more. Not partners, the feeling.

I would have seen this anyways – I have my favorites (wink wink). But I guess I am just waiting for something magical. Like something that shakes your core, and you can put your finger on it and say “yes, that feels like love.” Like Melvin or Carol who just like having warm rolls, or the lover who reads “the notebook” to his eternal wife, or Jules who goes insanely nuts to win her man back or Anna Scott who gives love a whole new dimension with one word that is read in English language as “indefinitely”. May be I am waiting for something that gets more and more magical as I watch it over and over and over again.
